Looking for a Flying Club in Middle Georgia?

We’re the G.U.M.P.S. Flying Club and we’re building a local community of aviation enthusiasts. Located at KPXE airport in Perry, GA, we are the only AOPA recognized flying club in the Warner Robins, Macon and surrounding Middle Georgia area. If you’re tired of expensive rental rates and looking to build time or develop a fun hobby with your family, you found the right club.

About G.U.M.P.S. Flying Club

The G.U.M.P.S. Flying Club is based at KPXE in Perry, Georgia. We’re a group of local pilots who simply enjoy flying and wanted a better option than currently exists in the area.

We currently have around 20 members and are continuing to grow at a steady pace. Our aircraft is a Piper Cherokee 140, known around the field as “Foghat.” She’s a solid airplane that has recently undergone a very thorough annual and serves our members well for everything from quick local flights to weekend trips. As membership grows, we plan to expand the fleet responsibly so we can keep availability strong and costs reasonable.

Our members come from different backgrounds. Some fly purely for the enjoyment of it—taking family and friends up, staying current, or heading out for a $100 hamburger. Others are building time toward aviation careers. What we all have in common is a respect for safety, a willingness to follow clear club standards, and an appreciation for being part of a local aviation community.

We’re not a flight school, and we’re not a rental counter. We’re a group of pilots who share an airplane, share responsibility, and enjoy keeping general aviation strong in Middle Georgia.

About N8217N

Our club aircraft is a 1969 Piper Cherokee PA-28-140, better known around KPXE as “Foghat.” It’s a simple, honest airplane that does exactly what most of us need it to do—get off the ground reliably, fly comfortably, and bring you home without drama.

The Cherokee 140 is a stable, forgiving platform that’s great for staying current, building time, or taking a relaxed cross-country trip. With its low wing design and straightforward systems, it’s easy to fly and easy to manage. The panel is basic and practical, keeping the focus on flying instead of pushing buttons.

Foghat is well-suited for local flights around Middle Georgia as well as weekend trips across the region. It cruises comfortably, handles predictably, and keeps operating costs reasonable—one of the key reasons our members can fly more often.

As the club grows, we plan to expand the fleet thoughtfully. The goal is to maintain the same balance we have now: dependable aircraft, fair costs, and strong availability for members.

What Does It Cost?

We keep our pricing simple and easy to understand. No hidden fees and no surprises.

Membership

  • $3,000 one-time buy-in

  • $285 new member fee

  • $55 per month in dues

The buy-in gives you a share in the club and can be resold in the event that you depart. Monthly dues go toward fixed expenses like insurance, hangar, inspections, and other ongoing costs of keeping the airplane in good shape.

Flying Costs

  • $88 per hour dry, billed on tach time

The hourly rate is dry, and you’re billed by tach time, not Hobbs. That means you’re paying for actual engine time, which keeps things fair. You simply cover fuel as you fly.

Even after fuel, most members find they are flying for much less than typical flight school rental rates in the area.

We’re structured to keep flying affordable while maintaining a safe, well-cared-for aircraft.

What’s Required to Join?

G.U.M.P.S. Flying Club is open to licensed pilots who want affordable access to a well-maintained aircraft and a strong local flying community. We are not a flight school and do not accept student pilots.

To join, you must:

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot certificate

  • Have a current FAA medical certificate or qualify under BasicMed

  • Meet the club’s insurance requirements

  • Complete a checkout in the club aircraft

  • Agree to follow all club rules and safety standards

All new members complete a checkout with a qualified instructor to ensure safe and consistent operation of the aircraft. The goal is not to make things complicated, but to make sure everyone is comfortable with the airplane and club procedures.
